ADHD Coaching for College Students

Research finds that students who received ADHD coaching show substantial gains in their overall approach to learning - including improvements in their ability to organize, direct and manage cognitive activities, emotional responses and overt behaviors. They are better able to formulate goals more realistically and consistently work toward achieving them, manage their time more effectively, and stick with tasks even when they find those tasks challenging. In addition, students report that coaching helps them to feel less stress, greater empowerment, increased confidence, and have more balanced lives.

Is ADD the Same as ADHD?

Oftentimes, there can be some confusion over the use of the terms Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). How do they differ? Are they the same thing? Can I have ADHD if I am not hyperactive? Why does ADHD sometimes have a slash -- AD/HD? What is the correct term to describe what I (or my child, spouse, friend, etc.) have?

Help for Adult ADHD

If there is a child in the family with ADHD there is a 30% to 40% chance that one of the two parents will also have ADHD. Many adults, both fathers and mothers, first learn about ADHD when their own child is diagnosed. As they describe their child's symptoms to the doctor, they begin to feel that they are describing their own life. Looking back to childhood things finally begin to make more sense. There is often this "ah-ha" moment of clarity.

Adult ADD: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed

I am a fan of each of Dr. Stephanie Moulton Sarkis' books including her most recent, Adult ADD: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed.

If you are an adult recently diagnosed with ADHD or if you are a family member or loved one of someone who has ADHD, one of the first steps after diagnosis is to become educated about ADHD.

There are many wonderful books and resources available to help you along your journey in learning more about adult ADHD. If you are wondering where to begin, Adult ADD: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed is a great starting point.

One of the unique aspects of this book that I particularly like is its conciseness. At 150 pages long yet filled with what you need to know, it is truly a "pocket guide" -- an easy-to-read and accessible first-step manual to expanding one's knowledge about ADHD.
